Float was recorded by Grammy and Emmy-winning engineer Tommy Skarupa. Tommy lugged his protools rig from kitchens to living rooms, improvising recording studios everywhere - making it possible for a stellar cast of players to work together, often sight unseen!
The great Danny Kortchmar (James Taylor, Carole King, Don Henley, etc.) co-produced and played multiple instruments (acoustic and electric guitars, ebow, melotron, stylus), and we co-wrote ‘Gone Before I Go.’
Jeff Pevar (Ray Charles, Crosby, Stills and Nash, James Taylor) and Tim McDonald added exceptional guitar work coaxing musical magic from rusty dobros, vintage fenders, and an assortment of fine acoustic instruments. And no record of mine would be complete without renowned French jazz bassist, François Moutin (also a co-writer on 3 tunes).
The album was mixed by Will Schillinger (Pilot Recording Studios, MA), Steve Postell and Robin Danar (Katonah Studios, LA, CA), and mastered by the superb Greg Calbi (John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Sarah McLachlan) at Sterling Sound in NYC.
There are also a number of people I reconnected with over the course of the recording - notably parts-master (and Berklee College of Music professor) Stefani Langol on keys (co-writer of the closing cut, ‘Every’).
I wrote/co-wrote the songs, produced, played mandolin, keys, percussion, kalimba, sang the lead and harmony vocals, and was thrilled to work and arrange with all of these wonderful musicians/artists.
Mike Toti created the CD art, and my niece, Lianna Pevar, took the back cover photo.
The end result feels like family - the most personal work I've done.
Enjoy, and thanks to all of you for supporting independent music!
